Privacy Policy — Council of Five
This Privacy Policy describes how Council of Five ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use the application. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Summary
- We do not require an account. There is no signup, login, or profile.
- Your sessions live on your device. Every problem, perspective, follow-up, and reflection is stored in your device's local storage (AsyncStorage). We never store this content on our servers.
- We send your text to an AI provider to generate responses. That is the only way the app can produce perspectives. See Section 3.
- We do not sell or share your data with advertisers. Ever.
- You can erase everything. Delete sessions individually inside the app, or uninstall the app to remove all data.
2. Information you provide
When you use the app, you may type the following:
- The "problem" you bring to the council (free-text).
- Follow-up questions you ask any of the five advisors.
- A short reflection note when you complete a session.
This content is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to your local storage.
3. AI processing
To generate the five advisor perspectives and any follow-up answers, your typed text is transmitted to an AI inference provider. At the time of this policy:
- The inference provider is Anthropic (Claude models), accessed via a proxy operated by Rork.
- The transmitted text includes the problem you typed and, for follow-ups, the prior advisor perspective and your follow-up question.
- The transmission is over HTTPS.
- We do not send any device identifier, account identifier, name, email, IP, or location data to the AI provider.
Anthropic and Rork process the content under their own terms and privacy policies, which generally limit retention and prohibit training on user content. We do not control their infrastructure. If their practices matter to you, please review:
- Anthropic privacy policy: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy
- Rork terms: https://rork.com/legal
If you do not want your text sent to an AI provider, do not use the app.
4. Information collected automatically
If the EXPO_PUBLIC_POSTHOG_KEY environment variable is configured at build time (you can confirm by reading the source code in expo/lib/analytics.ts), the app collects anonymous product analytics via PostHog:
- Events such as "session started", "advisor completed", "session saved", "session shared".
- These events contain counts and identifiers like which of the five advisors was used. They do not contain the text you typed.
- No name, email, IP, or device identifier is sent.
If this environment variable is not set, no analytics are collected.
The app never collects:
- Your name
- Your email
- Your phone number
- Your location
- Your contacts
- Your photos
- Your microphone, camera, or any sensor data
5. Notifications
If you grant notification permission, the app may schedule a single local notification once per week reminding you that the Council is available. Notifications are scheduled on-device. No notification content is transmitted to a server we operate.
You can revoke notification permission at any time in your device settings.
6. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the app inappropriately, please uninstall it to remove all stored data.
7. Your rights
- Access: Open any past session inside the app to view its content.
- Deletion: Use the trash icon in the home screen list to delete a single session, or uninstall the app to delete all data.
- Sharing: Use the share button on any session to export it as text or image.
- Withdraw consent: Stop using the app at any time. No data lives on our servers, so nothing further is required.
We do not have a centralized data store from which we can issue exports or deletions on your behalf, because we do not store your data.
8. Security
Your sessions are stored on your device using your operating system's standard storage APIs. The security of that storage depends on your device's own protections (passcode, biometric lock, full-disk encryption).
We use HTTPS for all transmissions to the AI provider.
9. Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be highlighted inside the app's About screen.
10. Purchases and subscriptions
If you purchase Council of Five Pro, the transaction is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never receive or store your payment card details.
To determine whether your Pro subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription-management service. RevenueCat receives a store-provided purchase receipt / transaction identifier and an anonymous, randomly generated app user ID. This is used solely to validate and restore your subscription. It is not linked to your name, your email, or the text you type, and it is not used for advertising.
If you want to review how these parties handle purchase data:
- Apple: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- Google: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- RevenueCat: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/
If RevenueCat is not configured in a given build, no purchase data is processed and the app treats every user as on the free tier.
